first download a client, from www.bittornado.com

    install it

just as an example go here
    http://www.3dgamers.com/dlexit/torrent/games/splintercell3/scct_demo.exe.html

wait couple of seconds, it will ask you to save a file with a .torrent extension on your hard drive, save it(remember where you saved it)

now go to start -> programs -> bittornado, lauch it, once you launch it, a file open dialog will open, just select a file you downloaded from the link above, choose the place where to save the file and that's it.

think of torrents like bullets and think of bittornado like a gun, you are getting bullets(torrents) from shop(websites) load them into a gun(bittornado or other client) and shoot to get the guy(in this case a file)

    do you have a router?

    chck www.portforward.com

if your not sure post the make/model of your "modem"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

nah i dont have a router, ive got the ZyXEL Prestige 623 modem and zonealarm pro firewall

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,080 ✭✭✭✭Random

The modem shouldn't really get in the way... (is that the USB one?)

Turn off your firewall and see if it works? Otherwise allow the program FULL access in ZA and it will give it access to the various ports automatically...

ok im downloading my first torrent now its a slayer album but im only getting a max 3.1KB speed should i do something to up the speed?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,136 ✭✭✭Superman

if you are using azureus and you at any point get a green smiley face it means that your ports are set up perfect and that it may run slow or turn to a yellow face if the file you are trying to download isn't popular and well seeded.

but if you never ever (NEVER EVER!) get a green smiley face on ANY file it means your ports aren't forwarded correctly and you need to search the web and find out how to do that!

its always a yellow confused little child face, even now that my firewall is completely closed down, hmm me confuzzed

Best way to get this thread locked is to tell us what you're downloading.. unless it's a linux distro best keep it to yourself :D

We are just talking about downloading torrents and never mentioned any actual files. Boards.ie could get in trouble if we started mentioning names,

Ok...just spotted this now. Not even sure I was a mod when it was posted, so no bannage, but this is a perfect example of something that will get you banned. The reasons were explained by someone else below.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 795 ✭✭✭johnnyboy4711

can you explain plz as i am a newbie to torrents!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 345 ✭✭padraigf

Because stealing music/videos is illegal.... unsurprisingly.

Boards is very strict about warez. No talk of where to get them at all. Implying you want bittorrent just for downloading illegal stuff is pretty borderline as it is...

You need to get .torrent files from web sites. Azureus/bit comet etc are just the program that access that .torrent file to download the real file.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use google and read a bittorrent FAQ.

On second thoughts, since youre too bone lazy to use google here is the google query done out for you. http://www.google.ie/search?q=bittorrent+faq+guide
