With the recent warm spell I was reminded of the familiar sound of the distance car/house alarm.

Basically what I am saying is why is it you can always hear a distanced car/house alarm during very warm weather?

I thought it was serious answer. People leave there windows open because it is hot
then forget to close them so the alarm goes off after they leave.

It's the humidity. Sound waves can travel more easily in the moist air.

Sound also bounces off the atmosphere due to high pressure during warm weather.

Also, posters with no physics background are morons and should all be shot for asking stupid questions.

In the warm weather the leprechauns come and use their sonic projectors - at close range they work as cloaking devices, but have the side effect of making nearby sounds travel great distance. Leprechauns have had access to these "mystical" sonics projectors since the 1830s, due to their ability to steal a limited amount of electronic components from exactly 759 years into the future.
