    Your thoughts please....

Is the gfx any good for gaming?

    Cheers

    Dazza

gfx card: a club3d 6600gt is €185. performs much the same as a x800 as is a lot cheaper. club 3d have seemingly a good rep as well in europe.

x800 is still dacent though. cant go wrong either way.

monitor. the samsung is over priced. have a look at the ilyama stuff that a wee bit cheaper and have dvi as standard.....

mobo: overpriced. you can get cheaper that does the same thing for €100 less unless you really want the 1066mhz bus speed. otherwise f u c k it.

thats just me. but either which way you go the stuff you picked is good.

as regards the samsung monitor...like i said i work for them so I get it a good bit cheaper than the retailer... so it makes sence to buy it from them :)

I must check on some reviews on that gfx card you post about, cos I'm in the buisness of saving a few squid :)

Thanks for all the help lads!!!

you should get a monitor with DVI and 24-bit (16.7 million colours).........Samsung have a couple of examples with those specs on komplett.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 799 ✭✭✭MR DAZ

Yeah but a 8ms monitor is the best for gaming.......is it not?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 347 ✭✭DirtyHarry

its not all about the responce times of the screens.......people need to learn and take into account that that is not the only thing. Its a major point but not the most important to be honest. For gaming the 8ms will be good.....you might still notice the ghosting tho. DVI is important too and so is 24 bit - 16.7 million rich colours.

The one you are looking at isnt 24 bit, nor is it DVI. Its up to 16.2 million colours. I stress the *up to* in that.

Anyway i wont rant on....just try and get a happy medium of all specs. (within price range too)

    Cheers :)

If you're gaming, get a CRT.

Unless deskspace is a consideration, a solid CRT will give you a better image.
Finding a TFT that compares well to a €200 CRT will cost you €€€s

Wrt CRTs for gaming, I have to disagree. I've a 16ms 17" TFT (Hitachi CML174SXW) and I've absolutely no complaints about the image quality in terms of contrast or ghosting etc. I guess purists will argue otherwise, but for the vast majority a good TFT will suffice plus you get the other benefits - low radiation emissions, lower power consumption, less bulk on the desk :)

TBH .. I still going with the samsung model 19" 8ms , with the pivot stand

I used to have a 19" crt sony triniton and it was class...but it was far to bulky!

Then I had a Dell Ultra sharp 19 " monitor... it was fine but lately I felt that there was alot of ghosting on it ...which i hadnt noticed when i bought it first(over 3years ago)

I just think the for space saving reasons ..it has to be a TFT
