Laptop surge protection...

    Necessary?
What I mean is if I have laptop hooked up to it's AC adaptor either charging or running off the mains, am I protected from surges?
I've seen surge protectors that fit onto the adaptor where the power cord enters them, but surely the voltage transformer does this already?

My desktop, phoneline and all my AV equipment is already protected but I want to be able to plug in in any socket in the house, minus the risk.
I've looked on dell's site and can't find anything.
Anyone got a definitive answer on this...?

If there is surge protection built into a laptop when it does go it would cost a lot more to replace the an internal one than a €10 external one.
