Just got myself a set of Aldi 5.1 speaker, great value for €35. Not top of the range, of course, but certainly worth the money.

Hey tom, what kind of inputs do they have? is there an optical in?

No, unfortunately not - only the standard red/white (can't remember the correct term for them, but they are used in almost all audio/video connectors).

Also, I have just found a major flaw - when you connect a normal stereo ourput (say from the laptop/PC) you will only get sound from two of the 5 speakers (left/right). I incorrectly assumed it would pipe the stereo sound to all 5 speakers with the two left speakers getting the left signal and the two right speakers getting the right signal. Alas no.
