I have been messing around with the max no. of connections per torrent and max no. of connections globally in azuerus and was wondering what settings people find the best?

I have mine set at max no. of connections per torrent=80 and max no. of connections globally=200

Just wondering what i should have them set at

It depends on the speed of your internet connection.

If you're on DSL then those settings are way too high.

As a general rule cap your upload at 80% of your upstream bandwidth.

Set your connection numbers based on your speed. Theres no point in someone on 512/128 DSL trying to upload to more than 10 clients as they'll get less than 1Kb/sec each.

If you run a firewall have ports 6881 to 6890 open incoming to your PC as one of these is used by each torrent you run to facilitate incoming remote connections.

Iv 55kb/s global max upload speed.
and 200kb/s global max download speed.

Using UTV, 512/128 speed, and when im downloading (like at the moment a 4.29GB file) a large file I cant use the net/my PC as it slows it down.

    Have I the right settings?

you should be using 10k up and 45k down to keep the connection lively for other traffic

What speeds could I top it up to when im not using the PC? Would it affect the download time?

well those limits aren't concrete - the bandwidth used will fluctuate above them depending on activity. best to leave them that way all the time to keep a nice steady flow

I kow all that, its just at the momment i am getting very slow dl speeds(avearge 5kb/s) from a torrent which has 500 seeds and 3500 peers and was wondering if it was to do with me looking for too many coonnections.

just leave everything at default and use the configuration wizard.

set your upload to 10kB and you download to unlimited
when you select a port make sure the test in azureues doenst give a nat error.
if it does forward a port in your router, you only need one for azureus

See what happened there was because it wasnt working i was messing around with the transfer options and i had them both at 0 then changed them the wrong way around!!!

I have been using it for about 6months(the right way :o ) and this is the first time this has happened. Dl is only at 16kb/s at moment, and i have it set at 55kb/s and i have upload set at 8kb/s so i can use the net aswell, usually i get my max around 50kb/s especially with a torrent which has so many seeds and peers.

    green faces and all?

culd just be an overloaded torrent, happens sometimes with public trackers that everyones upload is so low that the file takes ages to get shared.

as they say if it works, break it so you can fix it ;)

default settigns work fine afaik, but azureues always pisses me off as a bandwith hog, even on slow torrents it would choke the net connection of everything else sometimes, probably to do with so many connections being allowed tbh, so i just use tornado generally
