Hi all,

this is quite a specialist question, not sure if anyone has the answer.
I bought my pride-and-joy, an iMac G5 20" last year, and have spent the intervening time pimping it up (512MB SO-DIMM, 180GB 7200 rpm disk, airport extreme, bluetooth dongle, apple bluetooth keyboard, MacMice bluetooth mouse, speakers etc) and it's nearly perfect. Salling clicker to my Nokia 6600 is nearly worth all that money by itself :-)

What I want to know is this; I have maxed out my SO-DIMM slot with 512MB, the internal DIMM is populated with a single 256. Can I stick in a 1GB dimm? I know for certain that a 512 will work, but I'm not chucking out a perfectly good 256er to go from 768mb to 1024.. Has anyone actually done this?
Anyone want to lend me a 1GB dimm which I'll happily buy if it works?

with a 1gb sodimm, you'd be upto 1280, assuming you can't remove an internal memory slot.

Ok, typo..
I have a G4..
Googled a few times, and used Crucial memory configurator. but suggests I can only put in a 512 internally (256 goes in bin) and 512 SO-DIMM. Anyone know different?

Everything I've read from apple says that the max is 1GB (512 int 512 SO-DIMM) but the <excellent> MacTracker application says that the max is 1.5GB (and makes a point the Apple say that 2003 USB2.0 iLamps take max 1GB).

The thing is, I just bought a very expensive 512Mb SO-DIMM, and chucking it only to replace it with a 1GB one would be a pain :-(
Question (maybe better in Mac forum, I'll admit) is really whether or not anyone has successfully replaced the 256 internal dimm with a 1Gb.
FYI, internal RAM is removable, but not easily :-)

Replacing HDD as soon as firewire case arrives anyway, so seeing as I have it open..

What I really want is for some clever clogs to mod the future G5 powerbook (not soon) so that it fits into my iLamp case..
The case is sooo nice, I just really use a proc and gfx boost though :-(
