    Hey all.
Got an eircom wireless hub. Was going to use ethernet because i was scared off by prices for wireless adaptor cards. But realised i could just get a decent one online. Any recomendations for a good price for a wireless card for PC that'll work with netopia wireless hub??

    Thanks

Well unless you are really concerned about proprietory-security encryption or having a new 108mbs speed or something, I would suggest a standard linksys or d-link pci card. They can be picked up new on ebay for about $10. These will work just fine.

I use a dlink 108mbs hub/4 port ethernet hub that I got for $20 and a couple of cheap($10-$15) mixed pci/usb/pcmcia cards, and my system runs without fault.

right ok, as much as i love ebay, i need'm quick. Would these little fellas do the job? And yeh, would anyone be able to jump the wireless and peek at my computer given i don't have blocking software?

If you set up your wireless router to accept unencrypted connections then anyone (within range) can piggyback on your connection. However, it's a simple job to set up encryption on a wireless router. Read the manual and you should be fine, but definitely do set it up.

I assume Eircom impress the importance of encrypting the wireless connection upon it's wireless router customers. Though it wouldn't surprise me if many people weren't doing this. Could be handy free broadband for you if your neighbour is a bit of a simpleton where computers are concerned ;)

Don't get that wireless usb dongle. Got two of them and my brother is runing one about 10-15 feet accross an open room and it still has a crap signal strength and disconnects. I've still to test the other one but on first impressions I'd give it a miss. I'd get this one instead. I have one that runs from the far side of the attic to the router on the ground floor with a perfect signal.

These would work, things to be careful of with these is the location of the USB port on you PC - if it's at the back you might have signal strength problems

If you have a spare PCI slot you could try something like this http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301248&view=detailed which has an external antennae for an extra €6 will give you better results.
