hi guys, i think im in the correct forum for this one!

im planning on upgrading my laptop (hp omnibook 4100) for something a bit faster and up to date. ive had this laptop from new and it is virus and error free.

my usage varies, small amount of web-design & 'photoshopping', lots of web use (online college work/surfing/downloading etc).

so first question, how much is my current laptop worth ?

could i trade it in, when buying my new one?

what type/spec should i be on the lookout for?

can anyone point me in the right direction of places where i will get a decent/fair deal?

thanks a lot for any help you can give me!

of course, here is a webpage with the exact spec of the machine.

ive had it from new (July '02) its unmarked, boxed as new and in full working order, with original power supply etc

currently running on Win XP SP2

    well

    if -
    battery life is over 2hrs
it comes with an xp license
the screen has no dead pixels
it comes with a wireless card

you could be looking at 450 to 550 euro.
nowhere will do trade-ins tbh, try the for sale forums / buy and sell / college notice boards

if your lppking for just web use and battery life , go for a centrino processor and avoid advanced graphics cards, onboard will be enough for dvds and basic image editing.

go for at least 512mB of ram and 40 gigs plus on a hdd

check the dell site for offers - they actually do good laptops
some german sites around aswell but cant remeber the links, check the new laptop forum for them

battery life is 2 hrs+ - the scheduled maintainence on this machine has always been on time!

    Legit XP install (with licence)

Screen is unmarked, let alone no dead pixels

Doesn't come with a wireless card, but these can be picked up easily and cheaply

maybe a post in the for sale forum will help.

thanks for your help and suggestions :)

what is the opinion of the Sony VAIO laptops - are they just fashionable or functionable?

has anyone got any personal experiences of them?

might just invest in another HP laptop, as I really cannot fault them.
