When my best mate died last year we had a lovely girl singing at the church.

She sang "My Immortal" by Evanesence and "Heaven" the Bryan Adams song (actually DJ Sammy was the one he liked, the Candlelight Mix), he loved both of those songs.

It really was lovely, but I cannot listen to those songs anymore. Too much sadness.

:(

Was at a funeral recently where Greenday "Time of your life" (I know that's not the title of it but can't remember proper title).

One I was at 2 years had the drugs don't work by the verve (he died of cancer and hated his chemo so it was strangely appropriate).

Blink 182 - Adam's Song... not very commercial and a bit depressing but moving all the same!

Listen to 30 second sample here (Song 7) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B00000IPAX001007/0/103-7844998-7535811)

Well, actually it's called 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)' so 'Time Of Your Life' was perfectly acceptable as a subtitle. :D

Wow, allot of you have had people very close and your own age die. I'm just back from a funeral of a great-aunt.

There is always Gravedigger by Dave Matthews, Bury Me by Smashing Pumpkins.

Goin' up to the Spirit in the sky(Spirit in the sky)
That's where I'm gonna go when I die(When I die)
When I die and they lay me to rest,
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best.

Would rather be cremated though and maybe "Burn baby, burn bady" song played.

I'd like Goldie Lookin' Chain's take on that to be played at mine
Smoking on up, Soap Bar in the sky,
I’ll smoke Soap Bar ‘till I f**king die,
Before I die and they lay me to rest,
I will always smoke Soap Bar, that’s the best.
That'd be good for a laugh :) dunno what the family or priest would make of the lyrics though.

I've left instructions that if I die I have "Run On" by Elvis played as I'm carried down the isle in my box. It's one of my favourite Elvis gospel songs, and it's quite fitting as a funeral song I think :)

that if I die.
Good luck with that

Burn Baby Burn (as someone suggested) would be good followed by Guten Tag by Wir Sind Helden. The chorus keeps repeating the line "Ich will mein Leben zurück" - I want my life back.

I think 'd like Monty Python - Always look on the bright side of life for mine.

The thought of a whole congregration singing along to that (complete with the whistly bit) really cracks me up. :D

I reckon pink floyds comfortably numb would be mine, that or Jeff Buckleys version of Satisifed Mind, which was played at his own funeral.

i think most funeral music should relate to the dead person.. ie a song they loved

my uncle died we played vincent by don mclean

For me it would have to be one of these three
Monty Python- Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
ACDC - Highway to Hell (Probably where I'll end up but hopefully not :D )
or
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
