I'm currently working on converting my homepage to flash.

Now is it worth creating a html version for those without flash, or is flash so widly used used, thatI shouldn't bother.

Also is there a site the gives statistics on overall internet (not just one website) browser usage and plugin usage.

    Thanks

smoke me a kipper, i'll be back for breakfast.

You should definetely create a HTML version. A lot of people don't have the plugin, some people are running operating systems that aren't supported and some people just can't stand Flash (me).

If you want your site to be anyway useful then limit the Flash animation. In a recent interview Jacob Nielsen said something along the lines of: (not exact words, look at http://www.webtechniques.com)

95% of flash animation on the web is totally useless. When there's a skip intro option people almost invariably click on it straight away. Also there are no standard widgets. It took Apple something like a year to design the scrollbar. It's not something you can just whip up in a few weeks.

Also Flash isn't searchable. If you want to have Flash-like animation then take a look at SVG (Scaleable Vector Graphics). http://www.w3c.org

haven't been a fan of flash b4 but thats mainly when used as apointless intro to a clan page or whatever...

This guy posted a link to his site on the macromedia.ultradev forum regarding his use of an ASP e-card system that he thought might interest the group...

Also, if you check out his http://www.designation.com/contact/london.asp page, the map that he has imported into flash is pretty neat... being able to zoom in on it....

Re: whether to use flash only or html version, i dunno.... I guess it depends who you site is aimed at.... someone in the biz will be able to tell you better... Bard??
