I've been thinking about having a go at making a few quid selling my useless crap on eBay. Never really used it before and wondering if anyone has any tips for selling stuff, particularly from the perspective of someone using ebay.co.uk from Ireland.

Had any good/bad experiences trying to unload stuff?

I kind of looked into doing this aswell, but I checked An Post's charges for shipping etc, and they were so damn high I figured I wouldn't bother. I mean, who wants to buy an item for $3 and have to pay $15 for shipping?
Any other ways of unloading old/useless/unwanted (but in good condition) stuff?

Try and put in what the shipping costs will be, people will be far more likely to bid if all the costs are transparent.

Really have to agree with that one, I'm about 50 million times more likely than if it's excluded

make sure the descriptions are accurate.. always have photos of the actual item as people will be more inclined to bid whereas if you have generic pictures from the manufacturers website then you won't get as many.

how much does it cost to sell items on ebay? i.e. does ebay take a piece of the pie?

I just sold a DVD box set recently for £13 (in P&P). The listing fee was 46p ( I think ) and then paypal took a 70p cut. These figures are only off the top of my head mind.

eBay is a handy way to shift unwanted stuff, I've sold a few things. the main thing is to give the best description possible, list all costs, and don't have the starting price too low in the hope of attracting bidders. Low, but not too low
