    Hey Guys,

The girlfriends laptop is giving problems and she in the middle of a pile of assignments, so need a bit of help here.

The hash-key on the keyboard is broken, and it's kinda stuck. When she's typing a document, it kicks in and she gets the hash character all across her screen.

I've already lifted the key, and there doesnt seem to be any dust there.

As she doesnt use the hash key, is there any handy way to disable it altogether?

I think you have to change something using reg-edit, but Im not sure....

If anyone has done this, or knows how to, I'd really appreciate the help,

    Cheers,

    Martin

The things we do for love..........
Why not use a big sledge?
Can you pull the key out altogether
or is it stuck in the assembly?
    Rhys.

Have tried pulling the key out, but that doesn't work.. It one of those *capacitor-type* keyboards, dont really know whats wrong with it....

think the solution is a software one anyways :D

Jaysus, that's rough. It can defo be done. Check out this page on disabling the windows key....

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=181348

You may be able to alter that doc to disable the # key.

    Also...ignoring repeated keypresses:

    http://www.gnome.org/learn/access-guide/2.6/ch02s02.html#dtconfig-16

Short term solution is to try removing the plastic key (laptop ones can usually be reattached fairly easily). They key is just a switch. If the key is holding down it means that the switch is making contact somehow.

Last idea is to connect an external keyboard to it if you can borrow one. Does the laptop have a PS/2 port?

    cheers for that man!

Think I might try mapping the hash key onto the scrolllock key, that way it won't do much damage

    Thanks again!
