you know...when you get the little red x instead of the image..
Well I am doing up a page which includes a cell with a background image, and 2 foreground images in it...along with some text...
One is a gif with some transparency, the other is a jpeg...

I published this to a PWS to test it, and when I access the page (in IE5 - haven't netscraped it yet), usually the gif has the red x yoke instead of the picture... right click and select 'show picture' doeas exactly that...shows the picture so hmmmmmm...
sometimes, if i go to another page, and then click back, its shown ok (even if I didn't select show picture previously - and all this is after deleting tmp. int. files and clearing history before each test...)

also, if i refresh the page several times, sometimes it shows the picture, but doesnt show the other one in the cell! ...great fun...
which leaves me thinking its purely a PWS issue......
EXCEPT, when I load the www.boards.ie page, the title image boards_title.gif also suffers from the same problem...?

    afaik, this only happens at home on a w98se, p3 650 256mb and IE5

on my pc in work p3 500 384mb w98 IE5 and again on a PWS its fine...?
    any ideas..?

Looks like you got "show pictures turned off on your browser".

    no...show pictures is selected...
besides, the page in question has several other images, both gif and jpeg, without problems... must be some IE5 thing but anyone know what?

Something fairly similar used to happen to me when I had IE4 installed, although it only started happening when I updated it to some newer version of IE4. However when I updated to IE5 it stopped happening, so this could be a different problem entirely. I'm using Win95.

What used to happen to me is that some parts of pictures would show, and other parts of the same picture would have horizantal blank strips. This changed as I scrolled up and down the page - a different part of the same picture would go blank.

    Damn annoying.

same happened me before. It was fine on my pc but not when I looked at it from another.

I *think* it was because it had to be in hte cache to show up properly. Anyway, I added an image preload to the page and that sorted it out nicely.
