Just got weekly specials e-mail from komplett...
ALL Aigo mp3 players are half-price - looks like they're getting outta them!!
    However Aigo P750 20GB at €134.50 looks a bargain.
If you check website they are still listed as full price. I'm told server won't be refreshed for a couple of hours. Ring at once - while they're still available...

    review here:
    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/04/review_aigo_p750/
    Rating 60%

Pros — SD card slot; line-in MP3 encoding; drag and drop file transfer; leather carry-case.

Cons — Unimpressive, uninspired design; large size; poor earphones; only 20 quid less than an iPod.

i read another review there of the 20 gig model, said 7-8 hour battery life...

and the 20 squid less than an ipod 'con' wouldn't really apply now either!....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Dec4

Yeah had a quick look at that before I bought - I'll take my chances!?
Review is only a month old yet STG priced at £200. I'm sure that had some bearing on "positioning" and comparison made by reviewer in awarding 60%.

I ordered one of them anyway, many thanks for the tip-off Dec4. I've been looking for a line-in recorder for a while, was looking at €300+ for an iriver, got this little beauty for €134. Once again, good work!

they could easily have got MUCH more for them say 180-190 euros. like argos with their knockdown hd1s, u wonder whos running these places sometimes.
anything that sells out rapidly means they are not charging enough- eg u2 tickets- i wonder why u2 and their agents never charged people 175euro each for them, they still would have had a full house.:::

Cheers for that dec4, I was going to get a portable hd to transfer my mp3s and that was costing 149 euros.

Could you order one now, out of stock and all, and have any hope of getting it for that price?

You sould definitely try, but they don't have to sell it to you until they accept your payment, as we found out when we ordered those projectors from dell that time

Lomb - Quite happy that they're not chargin' enough! Should have enough change to buy a decent set of headphones.

That was a superb bargain!! I wonder why they were selling them off like that, a relatively new product I would have thought.

Why do I always miss these offers by a few hours, exact same happened with the hd1 in argos

I went with GLS - will be lucky to have it by next weekend!!

*jealous* (don't suppose you'll be playing OCS on that magpie!)

I may well load up my copy of Moseley Shoals and my 100 Mile High City CD Single for old times sake, now you come to mention it... :D However there will be no room made for Politics of Peace or whatever its called ;)
jaysus. how much did that service cost?

Well, there's the rub. €25. But I figured given the price of the player I could afford it. Also, having read some less than flattering things about GLS in the Komplett forum I thought I might take the safer option. Also, I've had a few things 'disappear' using non-name-brand couriers in the past and its a pain in the ass trying to get a replacement etc etc.

I'll let you know if its any good or not after I have a play with it.

OK, here's the skinny on the Aigo:

    1) Looks: This thing is dog ugly, make no mistake. About the same size as a 1st generation ipod, not exactly light either. Comes with a 'burly' leather carry pouch. The scren is legible, that's about it.

    2) Sound: The phones that come with it need to go straight in the bin. If you adjust the eq to 'rock' (i.e. slightly more bass) the packaged phones start to buzz. Use an old pair from a sony walkman instead: problem solved.

    3) Interface. This is pretty ****e TBH. The software that comes with it only allows you to move pre-recorded playlists onto the machine, or to import from MP3s you've downloaded in which case it uses all the stupid playlists that the people you downloaded from set up. End result you have about 12 playlists and 8 album titles and 6 artist titles for 1 record.

In order to use this properly it seems you need to get a piece of software to create .plp files, which is a pain in the arse.

Alternately you can do what I did which is just drag and drop stuff onto it using it as a removable hard drive, which means you can only access things by file title using a different menu.

Also, if you record using the line in it saves everything in a different 'recordings' folder, I have yet to see if you can move the files around so they're all in the one place. It doesn't seem that you can do it from the unit, but maybe when you plug it in to the USB.

Cons: All in all then, its heavy, ugly, a little nasty to use and counterintuitive, and was quite possibly designed by a monkey on crack.

Pros: 20 gig hard drive MP3 player for €135. What do you expect, luxury?

    Magpie,
Have just read your review. Lots of cons...
I almost feel embarrassed for alerting people to this "product".
Needless to say no sign of my unit yet..

Don't get me wrong, its a perfectly workable portable hard drive for your MP3s. Its just not something that will inspire jealousy! And TBH its extremely good value for those of us more interested in carrying our music collection around at all times than having white headphones!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Dec4

Obviously won't be purchasing white earbuds but would be interested in opinions on a decent set of earbuds.
Should I buy Sennheiser MX 500 (32 ohm) or MX 550 (16 ohm) or anythinh else recommended??

Arrived this morning - will be interested in others comments and experiences. Playlist sounds a right chore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Dec4

Magpie - agree with all your comments. It's fine but uninspiring.
Off on a week's hols but I think I'll be putting mine on FS board after Easter.

OK, now I've got to grips with this beast a bit more I'm a lot happier with the player. I've donwloaded about 100 Cds onto it so far and get about 8 hours battery life. I've worked out how to use the playlists etc and while I'm still not blown away by it I still reckon it was excellent value at the €160 I paid for it (including DHL). Its also come in handy as a mass storage device as my pc automatically picks it up as a removable E:Drive.

Would be interested in hearing anyone else's experiences with this (P750)device.
Overall I must say I'm fairly happy - using software provided can upload albums quite easily and then search by all categories i.e artist, genre, album title etc.. Put a decent pair of headphones (MX550) on it and it's grand. Good value at €135+€10.
However I do have one major gripe with it. That's the battery life...
Certainly don't think I'm getting anywhere close to 8 hours with it ( prob more like 4-5 ). I know it depends on vol, eq settings etc and I don't leave backlight on but still seems very short.
More importantly battery indicates 1 block (1/3) which suggest some charge left however if you try to turn on next day it may be completely flat - not a gig. I always power down completely and don't leave it in standby mode. Would like to see some warning of "battery low" but nothing...
Furthermore when completely discharged like this it cannot be charged via USB.
Also now that Komplett are no longer stocking these will spare Li batteries be available?? Anyone enquired from Aigo's UK site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭Private Joker

having the same problems with it myself but it doesn't even get 5 hours life( i like my music loud) has anyone tried to upgrade their firmware, I have tried to but on the aigo site the page for the downloads doesn't seem to be available
