Dell ireland rip off

Dell won't deny this either. They've stated publically that they'll charge more in countries where people will pay more.

So, in their words, we can charge more in Ireland than in Spain, because Irish consumers will pay more than Spanish consumers will pay for the same products.

    Our own fault?

I ordered a 9300 Inspiron today.. The price here in Ireland was just under 2,400 euro. The price in the UK was just over 2,000 euro. I just told them that I was aware of the price differences and they matched it without argument. I asked why it was so much cheaper and he replied "competition".

just a thought but wouldn't the fact that the UK vat rate is 17.5% and the irish vat rate being 21% not have anything to do why dell prices are higher in ireland?

That makes sense.. But then you realise they are assembled in Limerick and shipped to the UK.. That would nearly balance things up...

When buying a laptop here that is 2,388 here and 2,046 in the UK, it isn't down to the 4% difference in the VAT rate.. Especially considering they are willing to match the UK price without arguing once you mention it. They also acknowledged they were cheaper in the UK because their was "more competition". This was about 2 hours ago!!!

I thought only the Pcs/severs were assembled in Limerick - the laptops & PDAs are made by "insert-totally-unpronounceable-name-of-Chinese-company-here" .

See you changed your sig after the roasting Mick Farr gave ya .... ;-)

Yeah, that was my initial thought but the figures still don't add up.

The laptops are done in Limerick as well. Even the latitude X300 (the Samsung Q20) despite the two stickers including the "made in China" line that appear on that particular model. No idea where the handhelds are done - presumably as you reckon in China-land. The handhelds are probably assembled by a team of tiny Tims with tiny fingers.
