hehe i can just imagine some stupid rich guy buying it thinking it would be better than a 6800 ultra when clearly the wildcat is for graphics development and not so hot for playing games

ah well never mind its money well spent tell your friends you graphic cards setup cost almost €2k and that you have 1gb+ of video memory just dont let them know its a bit crap for gaming :)

Don't worry what I have in mind for my next pc will make my previous pc's look like an emergency runway.......in bosina........in winter.......covered in s**t.

To say it will be quite good at gaming will be a understatement.

i guess the one thing this thread shows is how easily people are fooled by specifications like take a Radeon 9250 it has 256MB DDR that much memory on such a low end card is fairly redundant
the only reason they put so much memory on a card like that is because some people will only look at how much memory a card and think wow! dude with that much memory on the card it must be good at games

so with things like the wildcat and the nvidia quatro clueless people look at the specs and price tag and think it must be the most amazing card
maybe it is but not if you are a gamer thats not who the card was designed for

Well TBH i dont think clueless people will be looking at those cards because they are designed for graphics developement, they are probably incredable for what they do but just not for playing games, id say they are **** hot for developement though. Clueless people or people with a lot of cash to burn just buy the most expensive consumer cards like an x850 when in reality they can just buy a lower spec like an x800XT and clock it to the same speed or beyond the speed of the higher card, lol

i just came across this page here
heres some of what it said
    your 3dmark05 scores CHART

I've decided to make a chart with everyone's score and specs so they're easy for comparison, you won't have to list through 10s of pages and read hundreds of posts to find out where you stand. All you do is look at this handy chart

So fellas, I ask you to post your score, CPU, and GPU (brand is optional), and of course you must say if and how much they're OCed

and before i get pulled apart in this thread ...it was just a buss posting this im well aware of what this card might do in real-life gaming.... but for the likes of 3DS MAX and MAYA and so on this is a fast ass card ...but id rather spend that kinda money on 2x ultras in SLI....

This is not true at all for the example you gave, for a start some x800xt are still more expensive than x850xt, the difference between an x850xt and an x800pro is only €69 on komplett, then when you take into account that you need better cooling for the x800pro to perform an a par with the x850xt it would probably work out more expensive + shorting the life of the card(not that that really makes any difference, to me anyways) but your x800pro is performing on a par with my x850xt, you have overclocked the nuts of yours + added an expensive water cooler where as mine is running on stock, now imagine i was to do the same to my card as you did you yours do you still think your card could keep up? Just my opinion

i was talking about a x800XT being clocked to x850 speeds, as mine doesnt have the full 16 pipelines there is no way it could keep up with an overclocked x850. But to overclock an x800XT to x850 speeds wouldnt actually take much, could prob be done on stock cooling or on an artic cooling jobby

agreed, but like i said some x800xt are still more expencive than the x850xt, the core speed only increased 20MHz and mem by 40Mhz which is very little, it think the x850xt is nothing more than an x800xt PE.

    X800XT

    X850XT

here the X800XT is more exp

True, card manufacturers shouldnt be allowed to release a card thats only a TINY bit faster than the last 1, thats crazy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,817 ✭✭✭✭po0k

    Why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Processor manufacturers do it all the time. Intel in stages of 200mhz. Is it really worth spending 600e+ on a 3.8ghz when you can get a 3.4 for 280e.

It's not like they are forcing you to buy it.

Its the way its always been with any card series (x800,6800) manufactures have a low end and top end card, there’s usually not a lot between them, the low end card come from the wafers that had the most faults in them, while the PE's are hand picked wafers, top quality cards, which makes them better for OCing (cos less faults in chip).though it will be interesting to see the performance jump from a x850xt to ATi's Next major release.

Because 20mhz is a ridiculously small increase in speed on a graphics card to pay extra for

I know this souhnds stupid but didn't they use SLI back with old voodoo 2 cards and it was n't that great then either?

Yeah Nvidia payed 3dfx over $70 million for the patents. SLI is a great concept, it just needs more software support.

thats very true blood ...they took over 3dfx and got there hands on all there goodies and most of there team aswell...the same who worked on this latest SLI also worked on the voodoo SLI .....i'd love to be a fly on the wall in the ATI camp and hear some of the ideas they have to combat SLI ...will they like AZZA said bring some monster of a card out that can knock the score's of SLI for six or will they bring out something like what gigabyte did "2 cards in one " which means paying twice the price like the gigabyte 6600gt cards ...im trying my best to hang on before going to the darkside "AMD+NVIDEA"

ATI claims that this PCI Express 20-lane design is capable of supporting dual PCIe x8 slots for combining 2 graphics cards in an SLI configuration. Plans are already in place at ATI for an SLI version of RX480 to be introduced in 2005 I see that ATI are doing SLI in there next chipset for there motherboards the next chipset after the 200 series will have it ....so if there bringing it in on there mobos will they bring it in with there cards ...hopefully that way luke wont have to go to the darkside....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭dubdvd

heres is the ATI chipset with SLI ...so i'd say that they "ATI" have something up there sleeves .i can't see them making chipsets for only nvidea to clear up on there own GPU'S going into them ....i'd say they have some sort of dual cards coming out very very soon....but till then we have to do with this ATI X950XT

P.S. thanks to beatfreak for the linky through this great site
