I'm buying a PC LCD monitor online - Samsung SM930MP - which also has a TV tuner. Some retailers say these and some other monitors can't receive Irish TV. Is this right and what do I need to look at to check. I can't see from the specs whether this is true. Thanks.

That usually means it only has a UHF tuner, cable here uses VHF. However I haven't come accross that in a while.

I had a look at the manual for this monitor:
    http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200411/20041108084653140_BN59-00358L-02EnNT.pdf

but I couldn't locate any information about whether or not it can pick up VHF signals. I don't see why it couldn't, though, as it lists Ireland under the PAL I system (along with the UK, South Africa and Hong Kong).

    Spot on.

If it lists HK & SA then you're probably safe enough. Don't expect the same quality as a TV though - I'm running a Hauupage TV card on a P4 2.4GHz machine with 768M of RAM and a 256 MB NVidia graphics card - it's ok, but just doesn'y cut it. Hope that helps.
