i have an old fujitsu 10gb hard drive i want to install as a slave drive on my windows xp system. Is it as simple as just connecting the cables and starting the machine, or do i have to run the repair console first, i believe its FAT32

Stick it on slave, put the power cable in, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, ensure the pin on the back is set to Slave, and the one on the original HDD is set to master. Generally tells you the pin settings on the sticker on front of the Hard Drive.

    Best of luck

or just set them both to cable select - the one on the end of the cable should be your main hdd.

ok that worked, but when i put a heap of mp3s on it and then restarted i get the following blue screenie before windows loads.

    STOP:C0000221 Unknown Hard Error
    \SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll

    any ideas?

Does it work with out the Fuji HDD in?

If it does then windows might be trying to boot of that HDD.

works fine without the fuji in there, should i try switching around maybe the fuji with one of the cd drives? (dvd on secondary master and cdrw on secondary slave)

wont do any harm to try! was there an OS on the fuji drive?

krud forgot to ask! i had a similer problem once, when you say its old, how old? is it one of the old 66 drives? dont think xp has built in support for the older 66 drives, but tunexp can enable the feature and support the drive

    that fixed it for me!

made a mistake, its a seagate :) I tried setting it to cable select, it works sometimes but when i shut it down totally and then power it up i get the old message. I believe windows 2000 must have been on it because it was an NTFS format.. would that be right? I have formatted it and made it fat32. Think im going to just find a small external usb hd to use with it

For cable select to work I think both drives need to be set to cable select. Just set the main one to master, then the second one to slave. That way you know which is which.

i had both set to cable select, then back to master and slave, still the same..runs fine without the seagate slave drive..
