    Hi,

Im goin to Africa (www.overlandclub.com ,Cairo to the Cape) for 4 months later in teh year and am worried about malaria, my own reasearch has shown that everyone I know that spent time there contracted it; some very seriously and 1 person a full year after they returned home.

Can anyone better informed pls. let me know what the story is.
    Cheers
    AV

South Africa isn't too bad at all - been there a few years back and lived in Africa on and off for over half my life...only got malaria once.

The deal is this: malaria is a very serious disease but if you take the medecine you will be grand. Get down to the travel medecine place in Dun Loaghaire and ask them what the current reccomendation is..usually Larium these days.

Mosquitos carry other nasties as well (yellow fever, dengue fever etc.) - a treated net costs €25 and makes a huge difference.
