Does anyone know where i could get my hands on some open source code for a Linux Flash Player?

I've been looking around and can't seem to find anything?

    Cheers.

You can't - Flash player source code is proprietary and only available from Macromedia if they like you.

Here is one Macromedia employee's opinion on this.

    http://gplflash.sourceforge.net

They've done a library (libflash) and a companion player - it's all GPL'ed as the name suggests, so you can get the sources from sourceforge or over cvs. It seems pretty active, there was a new release back in January.

    Interesting - I haven't seen that before.

I've since found a review of OpenOffice.org Beta 2 where they say Impress can save your presentation as flash animations. Maybe OpenOffice.org are using gplflash code for this?

GPLFlash is a Flash 3 engine with support for the newer Flash 6/7 containers. Nothing else.

http://www.schleef.org/swfdec/ is a significantly better Flash engine, used in GStreamer for playing Flash animations. I think its around Flash 5 level, not 100% sure

They both have pretty bad Mozilla plugins, but when you're on LinuxPPC, anything is better than nothing

I thought Macromedia published the flash format, and hence other people could create flash stuff? I remember reading an article in Linux Format on how to write a PHP page that returned a flash file.

I think the main reason there isn't a fully working Flash development kit is becuause most hacker/open sourcey people don't like flash, so don't bother with it.

Theres libs to produce Flash files. Not to play them back.

Why I have no fecking idea. I remember BeOS could make Flash (through Moho) years before it got a player.
