just got my first laptop and the battery does not seem to be charging. i did all the inital charge discharge thing but when i went to charge it again it wont charge. now it will only run off ac adapter. the battery will charge for about 25 secs and then switch off and when im using the laptop(now more of a desktop) it…

just got my first laptop and the battery does not seem to be charging. i did all the inital charge discharge thing but when i went to charge it again it wont charge. now it will only run off ac adapter. the battery will charge for about 25 secs and then switch off and when im using the laptop(now more of a desktop) it switches between the battery and laptop every 30 secs. when its switches to battery it tells me that the battery is low and to change to ac which is already plugged in and then it goes back to ac power. sorry for the rant.
as i dont have much experience with laptops -is this just a faulty battery or is it a problem with the laptop???
