HTML File Naming Convention

Does anyone use any particular type of naming convention for bog standard HTML files - e.g. you've got a magazine's articles split into seperate files. How do you name them? By Topic? By Page Number?

Just curious as I've just about finished putting a client's magazine onto their website and I've gone for a [magazinename]_[startpage]-[endpage] convention.

    All the best,

I'd usually break that into subdirectories so as not to have just one cluttered up directory, as in:
    something.com/magazine/issue_date/subsection/article.html

(where issue_date could be something like "0800" for August 2000, subsection could be something like "letters" or "whatson" or whatever, and article.html would be the name of the article)

... and use includes all over the gaff, - natch.

And on a completely unrelated subject...

I'm quite sick of websites that give you a link to email them (mailto:blah@blah.com) disguised as something else.
It's hard to describe, but it's damn annoying having a heavyweight email app opening up every time you click a misleading link.

IMO all email links should be either a very obvious 'email us' type pic, or a text link- blah@blah.com

These unexpected email links seems to be a big problem with the smaller sites around.
    Just too damn annoying frown.gif

Sorry Licksy, the title of this thread promised so much, yet offerd so little, so I thought I'd add a little bonus sub-topic for the people who were sorry they botherd opening the topic at all.

    What's this now? (TM)
