The Laptop is running xp and the Computer is running Win 98, the laptop is connected to the usb modem, I have a cross over cable between the pc and laptop network cards, I have run the network setup wizard on both of the machines but still I can't get the pc to connect to the Internet through the laptop.

Anyone have any experience with internet connection sharing

    Thanks
    Kate

You need to have Windows 98SE for ICS to work on the computer

You don't need 98SE for an ICS client - it's just 98SE was the first Windows OS to support ICS *serving*. I got my Win2k system sharing its internet connection with a P75 running Windows 95!! :D

I don't know if it's possible to do ICS with the modem connected by USB - the most common way (and probably easier - it's what I did) is to use 2 network cards on the ICS server (one in, one out), but I don't know how that would be possible on a laptop - PCMCIA network card, maybe?

Does the USB connection to the modem act like a network - i.e. does it come up as a network in the taskbar, and does it give the PC and modem their own IP addresses? If not, I don't think ICS will be possible.
