I tend to use Firefox for my RSS feeds. The bookmark sidebar (press ctrl+b) makes it very easy to browse through my LiveBookmarks - and I've got sh!tloads of the things.

Haven't used Thunderbird in a while, but I found it less than satisfactory as an RSS reader - loading full websites in the small email view window is less than ideal; I don't see why it doesn't automatically save the news I read (in the same way as emails are downloaded) - this made more of a difference on dial-up I guess; and I couldn't get it to load any links found in stories - had to actually copy+paste the URLs into Firefox.

It may have gotten better since I tried it though.

Iv found that I manged to keep up to date with all the sites I normally didnt have time for before. Bloody great bit of software. Only complaint is on the mail side of things and the fact that it only takes one SMTP server for multiple accounts. Thats just stupid...

Assuming you're referring to Thunderbird, I believe current versions allow you to specify as many SMTP servers as you like, and choose your desired ones for each account...?

(Agreed though, it was stupid. Fine in the days before rampant spam relaying, but...)

    Hope this helps,

I'm using Thunderbird and as far as I know you can still only specify one SMTP server, no matter how many accounts you have.

Look again. I'm using Thunderbird 1.0 and have three specified, each tied to one specific account. See:

    Just a tip
Don't forget that you can use thunderbird to browse Boards.ie as well.

    tools/account settings
    news and blog
    etc etc.

    Manage subscriptions
    add
    feed url = http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=520

and you should be able to see the open source index page.

it works on the Forum id.. eg boards.ie/vbulletin > Comp > Open Source would be 520.

    Regards, John

note: came across this on boards sometime ago. credit goes to someone else.

Please mods don't boot me off i'm not telling people not to vist boards.ie but mearly showing them a way to achive their fix of boards.ie
