I have an .mpg that I want to burn onto cd, its 706 MB's.

I tried burning it onto standard 700MB cd with the overburn feature ticked but nero said the CD was only 703 MB

Fine ... I went and got 900MB cd's, went to burn it again but nero still says the CD is only 703MB's?

    Am I doing something wrong?
Should I be using something besides Nero?

    Cheers

Your drive might not support the full 900mb BUT as your only buring 700 odd mb your ok. As Chalk said go ahead and burn. Go into Nero Prefences and Overburn and increase the overburn limit slightly.

BTW, you say it's an MPG....

You can burn roughly 800mb mpg1 to a regular 700mb cd as a VCD.
Normal cds you create use 100mb for error correction. MPG has it's own error correction build into it so you should have no problem burning that MPG.
Sounds like your burning a DATA cd when you should be buring a VCD cd.
    Try that in Nero.

@Chalk - I have the overburn limit set to 900MB???

@The_Edge - I am trying to burn as VCD, didnt know about the error correction, was wondering why the file size went from 850 -> 706

Is it possible my drive can't recognise media > 703MBs?

    HP 9510i

    Cheers for the replies

Well I have some 900Mb cdrs here but my writer only sees that as 700mbs. In saying that I found I can burn close to 708Mb and be able to read them fine later. Any higher and I get crc errors.
Is it possible my drive can't recognise media > 703MBs?

I guess but only if your drive is old as dirt and only burns 650 discs.

Now, set your overburn back to 82min or whatever the default is.
Start up the Nero cd wizard and choose Video cd.
You'll notice the cd limit still reads as 700mb....don't worry.
Drag your Mpg over and you should have room to spare. (Again, 800Mb can be burnt as a VCD)

Final note....if your mpg is vcd complient in bitrate and resolution you'll can burn straight away. If it isn't, Nero will offer to re-encode it so it is.
You could ignore this BUT there's a small chance the final disc will not play in all dvd players that support s/vcd.

    Give it a go.
