Crackling / Static coming from Speakers.

    Hey guys,

I got a new system yesterday, a shuttle barebones http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301544&cks=SER with a good integrated Intel 7.1 channel surround sound card. I also got these Creative speakers http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=302217&cks=SER. The problem is that there's static / crackling noises coming from the speakers as well as the sound that's supposed to be there. The odd thing is that when I do a test the sound effects in the test are perfectly clear. It just when I load up games, or even on the standard Windows chimes, that things go wrong and I hear the crackling.

Now, by the time I got everything set up last night it was nearly 2AM, so I didn't have the time to try and resolve this issue. I'm just posting to ask the users of this board their suggestions, so that when I get home from work this evening I'll have a checklist of things to try!

Check your speaker settings in Cpntrol Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices on the Volume Tab there is an option to set up your speaker configuration

Ok, this is getting really really annoying :( I'm using an onboard Realtek High Definition Audio chip. The drivers are as up to date as I can find. I've got DirectX 9c. I've reduced the hardware acceleration from High to Basic. The sound still has background crackling noises in the basic Windows sound scheme (loading and quitting Windows etc) and in games. However when I run DirectX tests using dxdiag the sound is crystal clear. It also plays music CDs perfectly. Does anyone please have any ideas what the problem could be?
