Women's Mini Marathon

I was just wondering has anyone ever done the Mini Marathon before? I was thinking of applying to do it this year, but am not sure if I should because it is on two days before my leaving cert starts and I might be in a mad panic. However, I thought maybe it would be good for me to have to train for it and it could be a good de-stresser. What do you all think?
Also, if I do apply to do it, I'm not sure if I should put myself down as a jogger or a walker. I would like to jog, but I'm not sure if I could keep it up for 10k, and I've been told that joggers find it really irritating when they're surrounded by hordes of people walking and getting in the way. Anyone have any tips on this? I've never done the Mini Marathon so could do with some advice. Thank you!

I've never done it Fishie, being a guy and all, although I reckon if you put down either they won't stop you. The training would be a good way of relieving the stress, even if you decide not to do it

I'm hopefully going to do it this year, I've never done it before, but coming back from injury I figure it'll be something to aim for. The rugby and gym aren't enough for me. (I'm an exercise junkie!)

I'd recommend doing it even if it is near your leaving cert. As you said yourself it will be good to do something that's not school related and it'll be a fantastic way to keep fit during the rest of term. I stopped doing athletics during my exam year and it was the biggest mistake I made (that and the not studying) Exercise is great stress relief so you'll benefit hugely from it!

Even if on the day you decide that you'd rather stay in and study at least you'll have all the training done and you can always continue to train for next year's marathon and you'll have no bother running the entire 10k!

    Best of luck with it!

My sister did it last year. This is the Flora one right? It took her alot of training and stuff and she was so exhausted afterwards. So maybe just before your exams isn't the best time to be exhausted and stuff. There's always next year. And if you start training for it after leaving cert you could try win and stuff.

I wish I could do it but with my level of fitness i'd collapse after two minutes and head straight for eddie rockets :-p

Guys dressed up in wigs and did it last year. I'd go to watch just to see that tbh.

Oh, hey Sue! Yeah, it's the Flora one. Well the thing is I'm pretty fit as it is, I go to the gyma couple of times a week, I just don't really have a focus and I've noticed that as the year is going on I have less of a tendency to go work out. I could WALK the 10k absolutely no problem, so I'd probably end up doing a mixture of walking and running. There's no way I'd get anywhere near winning though, haha! One of my friends got into the top 50 last year but she's a really fast runner and trains all the time

I did it 2 years ago in a wig etc etc. You should really decide whether you are going to run or walk. It is quite annoying if you are running and there are loads of walkers in front of you. My advice is, if you you are going to run get up near the front - everything eases out by Burlington Road. If you are going to walk - stay near the middle at the start and you should have no problem walking and then getting into a run after a K or so. It is a good de-stressor and course is pretty easy so you won't be sore after, as you are fit and a regular gym goer.
