OK, heres the story. I'm going to Amsterdam on thursday with a few friends but one of the friends just applied for a new passport a few weeks ago. It turns out that the new passport won't be sent until tomorrow (wednesday) morning and will therefore not arrive until at least thursday morning if we're lucky. There's a good chance that it won't arrive then either.

So, does anyone know a way to get a document or something that will allow him to travel on short notice without a passport? This is an emergency people. Any help very welcome.

Go directly into the passport office in town, may have to wait around for 2 hours but will deffiently get it.

surely if you are only travelling within the EU you'll only need photo ID (Driving Licence would suffice)

You can get an emergency one though it costs a bomb for an essentially useless document.

He said it wasn't getting posted until tomorrow, so if he goes into the passport office, they might be able to give it to him today.

Shouldn't make a difference to them if they hand it to him, or post it tomorrow.

Driving licence will do fof the UK but nowhere else. He called the passport office and they said if it doesn't arrive on thursday morning then to go into the passport office and they'll issue him with a temporary one for €50. Its cutting it quite fine though. The flight is at 12.45.

yes but he may not be able to pick it up today because of work,, hence he'll have to go tomoro at which time it will already have been posted...

He can't go today or even tomorrow because of work. It'll be down to the wire I guess.

    Ok fair enough DiveBomb.

I'm not arguing with you about it - I was just saying he could go and collect it today.

as long as it's sent early tomoro then there is still a good chance he'll get it on thurs.. the postal service isn't *that* bad! usually it's next day delivery for items posted and delivered in Dublin.
