No running water since before xmas. Where do I stand?

Living in an apartment block in central dublin, and there's been water probems since just before xmas.

these consist of getting nothing more than a trickle of cold water (a trickle being a tiny bit more than a drip) through the kitchen tap.

the bathroom has been largely okay, but dropped off to a trickle for a week, but is now working again. the company looking after the apts. (WYSE) has told me that it would be fixed by tues or weds last week, but it's still not done.

this means that the water in the kitchen consists solely of scalding hot water or nothing, and when washing up we are forced to wear two pairs of gloves to avoid getting burnt. in addition to this our washing machiine has been brought to it's knee's and to avoid waiting 24 hours for a wash to finish we've been having to spend hours carting buckets of water into the kitchen and manually filling the machine through the scoop. way to ruin a weekend too as we can't go out while this is going on. in any case the machine is now making funny noises because of the extra strain. also the bathroom shower ump is fooked now as well from the week without pressure.

where do i stand? am i legally entitled to running water? can i charge WYSE fro the repairs?

I have a feeling that you should or are entitled to live rent free when the water is not working, it is a basic living condition. Check it out with a solicitor as previously advised.

<edit>Are you living in Ringsend by any chance? You may have a problem with the impeller in the water pump, I lived in a Wyes property in Ringsend where that was the problem.

wyse are paid by my landlord and we pay him, so i don't know about the rent free thing but 3 months rent back would be nice!

it's been 75 days today since the water went btw. i worked it out today during a quiet moment at work. ;)

Not trying to be smart, but why don't you just walk away for half an hour, and then do the washing up?

I sympathise with you though, I'm in a flat in Cork without hot water for the past month. And no, I'm not kidding; and no, it's not feasible for us to swap hot and cold water. :)

Wyse don't do water pumps, plumbers do.

Of course there may be the issue that Wyse should get a plumber to check their pump.

still need to wash the soap and crap off the dishes to stop them tasting of fairy liquid. ;)

there's a guy coming tomorrow at 5 to take a look.

apparently all the pumps were replaced on tuesday last week, and everyone else affected has their water back already, so they have no idea why we're still without.
