    how do I re-size (kb) a photo to bring from 356kb down to 100kb so I can post it on boards

    On most Linux systems there is a programme called 'convert' to convert many types of image files. Quick look at the man page should tell you how.

    That is if you're using linux. </fanboi>

    If it's a cartoon-ish pic, save as .gif
    If it's a photo then use .jpeg
    Reducing the dimensions helps alot too.

    Giant .gifs will have huge filesizes, they're better for smaller pics.
    JPEGs scale quite well in either direction.

    In fact, I think I'll add that to the sticky if it's not there.

    Anyway, this provides the convert program that syth mentions. It's very handy, but command line.

    If you have XP Pro, the mspaint program supports gifs and jpegs. (start->run->mspaint).
