Machine hanging

Every few days, seemingly at random and always when I'm not at my desk, my machine pops up a little dialog, stating that nView Desktop Manager has detected that the application pchbutton has stopped responding. I can turn off nView Desktop Manager for this app or not. Either way, after that nothing works and I have to reboot.

Sometimes it's pchbutton, sometimes it's ccapp (although less so since I turned off virus protection on outgoing emails) but it's always a complete lockup.

What is nView desktop manager, what is pchbutton and why does the latter stop working and the former not recover gracefully from it?

    Oh come on!

I found it with Google. Give it a try!

You found what with Google, spanner head? I searched before I posted and found several million results, none of which immediately looked useful. I thought someone on boards might have the same issue as me, and be able to help. If you can't help, why don't you just not waste your and my time by posting?

    pchbutton is spyware
nview is the control panel for your grafix card
    ccapp is norton firewall.

do a full virus and spyware scan
reinstall your gfx card drivers and reinstall norton
followed by configuruing them all properly

I'm not convinced that pchbutton is spyware, I've found that it's something to do with HP machines (which I have), but I disabled it in my startup (via msconfig) so let's see if the machine hangs and/or something else stops working. According to this http://www.auditmypc.com/process/pchbutton.asp it is part of the HP support package and can be terminated.

Id still recommend a full virus scan / spyware scan and see what it comes up with. Make sure definitions are up-to-date! I searched google for pchbutton and got a mixed responce - saying its HP and Spyware..

Try disabling it and see if it hangs still..
