My father has a load of OLD Betamax tapes and he asked me if they can be transfered to DVD and I dont have a clue if anybody can do this or if it is even possible.

So can anybody out there help...?

audio-video editing forum is what you want.
If the betamax player can be connected to a typical television then yeah they can be easily if you install a tv tuner card, because that will have the same connections as the regular tv.

Yes, and you don't need a pc at all. I have a standalone recorder that was €220. Got firmware to take macrovision off it. Backed up a few of my mates home videos which turned out very well. Creates nameable menus and chapters at 5min intervals or more. A few guys on the buyandsell do it cheap I think.

Im sure if you loook up video recording in the phone book, you'll find places which do it for you.

Don't go to any of the mainstream post facilites houses, they will charge you an arm and a leg, and then ask for you spleen.

Remember a standalone recorder is only €200, and you can sell it when finished. The devious would get one in argos and bring it back within 16days for the full refund, they would burn in hell though...
