    Anyone else exposed to PHBs going on about "reverting back to you" when AFAIK they just mean getting back to you?
    Seems particularly prevalent in the civil service and IT consultancies, and to my mind is just plain wrong. I'm guessing some big cheese used it by mistake once and their acolytes were too cowed to correct them, and even started using it.
    Well I for one would love to revert to a time when people actually used words for their meanings rather than bull**** potential.
    Anyone want to revert to me on this?

    Yeah, what the f*ck is a PHB?

    Revert back to me in your own good time...

    It's a crafty phrase that one "I will revert back to you" actually means "I will make the position of my back turned to face you." I guess their ass is covered if they don't get back to you. Or their back could be covered if they did get their ass on the case. Case closed methinks.

    That's a good one, I'll use that soon methinks.

    PHB = pointy haired boss (a la dilbert)

    to me "i'll revert back to you" sounds like its only correct usage would be if personB had at one time been personA , then turned into personB and were now announcing to personA their intention to become personA again
    :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:
    or in short "i will become you once again"

    EDIT:_Definition:___[v] undergo reversion, as in a mutation
    _________________[v] go back to a previous state

    EDIT2:Ah!! refer , thats what they mean , they've just got revert and refer mixed up :rolleyes:

    Revert in mistake for refer - very plausible.
    I'm definitely going to challenge the next muppet using it. Unless he's my boss, or someone else with power, or someone bigger than me...

    Lawyers use the word "revert" all the time. They also love to use same along with hereto, thereto, hereby, thereby, hereinbefore, therein, penis & herein etc.

    Actually, the only time I've ever heard this word being used in a civil service context is when somebody who has been promoted and can't cut the mustard in their new post reverts back to their previous grade! :eek:
