i was at the recent land rover outdoor sports show on friday and must say it was quite good. however i was surpirsed to find that the only occurance of archery was run by some 4x4 extreme whatever company....

i'd like to be able to stress my disappointment to the iaaa for not turning up but they dont have a working website... anyone have an email address?

this was a perfect oppertunity to showcase archery within ireland and get the public to learn of the existance of the sport and organisation, which very few would be aware of.

    opinions?

Oh, to answer you request for opinions,

As you say there was archery there, and i heard it been mentioned on the Ray Darcy show, so it was represented and show cased to the public, just not by the iaaa.

Ideally the iaaa should have done the archery, but remember the iaaa is a voluntary organisation. It is hard for the people who step forward and organise stuff, to do everything. If you see something that needs to be done and your willing to do it, then go do it.

Don't expect anyone else to do it, if you want something done get up to do it yourself. That might sound a bit harsh, but i know from running things at UCD and Maynooth and helping out in the league stuff that it takes a lot of work with very little to show. After a while you get tired of it. I know i'm looking forward to UL, two more weeks till i retire :D

Also it was on the same weekend as the National Championships, a bit of a clash there ;)

Whats more, these guys (extreme whataycallem) are a business organisation who do this for a living during the rest of the year. There's every chance they actually paid money to have a stand/display out there as it allows them to promote their business and get new clients.

Its difficult for a cash strapped organisation such as the IAAA to compete with a business if that is the case.

what does money have to do with it, scouting ireland got a stand for free, i'm assuming anyone else who wanted one would get one for free too. anyway i emailed them wondering why they didnt turn up, just out of interest...

    so, we'll soon see

also the range run but the 4x4 company was almost embarassing. cheap crappy bows shooting at 120cm targets at 5 metres, hardly something to get you interested...

Kadeshh have you promoted and demonstrated archery at all possible times while in UCD and DIT.......why not

You can answer your own question with that.

cos i'm not the governing body setup to manage and promote the sport in this country, college or otherwise...

These things go in waves, most of the time noone wants to actually do any work and everything just ticks over(or slowly decays), now and then you get people who are willing to put in the effort and the organisation(or whatever) grows.

My philosophy is the if you have the ability you automatically have the responsibilty. It usually ends up with me doing far too much but at least things get done. I tend to get annoyed at people who complain about things but then just sit there doing nothing. If you think archery isn't been promoted properly then you should start doing it yourself. Regardless of who is elected to what position, whoever is actually doing the work is the person in charge. If the work isn't been done then the position is open, step in and fill it.

I heard about the show a few weeks ago and breifly mentioned it at an IAAA meeting but at that stage Ireland Extreme had already started advertising they were going to have a stand and it was kinda too late to sort something out that looked professional and would look good for the sport! (no point looking shabby)

The IAAA is undergoing a major overhaul a the moment so it will take time to make contacts with groups that will let us know "in good time" what events are on that could showcase the sport!
There have been some good uses of media in the last four months and the more the sport is seen the better.
A P.R officer is to be organised to contact media and groups like those who run shows like the one in the RDS.
