Hardware, Software - History Development

    Hi,

I'm doing a communications project with 2 others for college.

One of the lads is doing (subtopics) the internet, the other is doing e-mail and I'm stuck with hardware/software.

    The 3 main headings are:
    - History of the HW/SW
    - Development of the HW/SW
    - Effects in communication in organisation

So far I've only done the history of Floppy disc's which I got from here:
    http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa110198.htm

I've been looking everywhere for something on the history and development of CD-Rom's which is good enough to copy and paste.

Maybe Powerpoint and one other form of software would be the other two I'd do.

Does anyone know of any websites that would be a big help with this? I spent hours yesterday googling and found very little.

    Thanks.

..might be of interest, Their is a film called "Pirates of Silicon Valley" that walks through the days of Steve jobs, Mr Gates and the Railway Club in MIT would be worth watching.

Also read up on the Railway Club (Cant remember actual name) that was in MIT back in the days, they made a lot of advances in Comp hardware and software.

    Homebrew Computer Club

I think it was Xerox who made the first mouse, which the said would never take off ;) IBM of course for all the mainframes..

if I think of any more ill let you know

For a history of Optical Disks try the following

    http://inventors.about.com/library/inventors/blopticaldisk.htm

Further links there for CD-ROMs and DVD

wikipedia is great for computer histroy and the like.
