Similar to a recent thread but I think this is a slightly different issue.
From new my laptop has 512mb but "My Computer" only says I have 504mb. Now I know it's only 8mb out and nothing major but it's something that's bugging me none the less. The laptop is a new Dell Latitude, Pentium M 1.6GHz and as already mentioned, 512mb DDR2 SDRAM and running XP Pro.
Anyone any idea what the story is ?

Your lappie probably has 8 mb shared memory for your graphics card.

Thats the answer, on board on most systems can be changed in bios to give 8, 16, 32 or 64MB to graphics but this is taken from the main memory

Cheers, I suspected that was what it was, although I thought more was assigned to the onboard graphics which is what threw me off.
Can I change the BIOS then to assign more to the graphics card ?

There may be a setting in the bios for changing the amount of memory you can share with gpu. 8 MB isn't that much these days.
