The Freedom Legion

There is talk of an American foreign legion, with the reward of naturalization or citizenship at the end of a term of service. Already, Bush offers naturalization to foreign soldiers who serve for 3 years in a war zone. There is a requirement that you have been resident for 2 years or more in the USA, but there is evidence that they don't actually ask for proof you are there legally.
On a more sinisiter note, this article suggests one of the reasons for such a force would be that it would not be governed in the same way by the UN?

    Interesting Opinion/Editorial article!

There is no true governmental "talk" or plans for an American foreign legion, but it is a suggestion of the author that such a body of foreign soldiers could be enlisted, assembled and deployed in such a manner. It is true that immigrant soldiers are fast-tracked/rewarded with citizenship for currently fighting in war zones.

If an American foreign legion like this ever came to pass there would certainly be debate about it before it happened.
