google adwords is good for advertising, enter all the keywords to do with your site and it will appear on google any time someone searchs for that word.

    interesting site.

The type of posts would appear to be funny, everyday quotes.
Many may be true, others could just be made up for the humour aspect.

However, this site could break-away if it starts listing overheard info about real people - celebs / politicians / sports players.

Could draw a huge audience then!

Not sure if ur mate wants to go down that route though... there's so much humour on the street on everyday life, that the material is already there.

For promotion for this site, I can not emphisise WOM and virual marketing enough.

Perhaps send out a weekly email of the funniest overheard stuff to ur mates / people who subscribe.
Make sure u have the site name on the mail header and footer "Weekly Overheard in Dublin".
If its genuine and funny, people will enjoy it and will spread it.
Things like this can spread like wildfire... just look at the amazing successful of the Carlsburg ads during the Roy Keane Saipan saga.
I've used such methods before and have seen the amazing success they bring.

Best bet is to goto RTE and Sky and book some airtime. Perhaps create a infomercial about the site.

Try to sponsor all the programs for the coming Ireland France game as well as sponsor the all Ireland and a few socer matches.

add a keywords meta tag to the main page, write in all the necessary keywords, then submit it to google and other search engines.

If you could get some advertising it would help also, but that would probably be very costly.

It's a good tip, but tagging will only be useful once the site is known, and when someone actually wants to search out your site.
(eg - It'll be very unlikely anyone will be searching for overheard funny things in Dublin).

As for advertising, you shouldnt have to spend 1c on advertising.
You have the potential for the compete opposite.... advertisers to PAY YOU!
    For example, banner ads, links.
this will happen as you build up your awareness campaign (if done successfully).

So.... the key area to focus on is site awareness.
    overheardindublin.com
(Perhaps register OID.com, or something similar to keep it short and snappy once awareness grows)

You want people to log and on go directly here, because they heard it was good (as I mentioned before, through Word Of Mouth or Virual).
I would highly recommend setting up an email subscription to the site... with a weekly newsletter of the best bits... but still keep more material + archives for site only, to keep getting people back.
Before you know it, someone will mention it on a radio programme or TV station / press... and *boom*. Watch those hits!
It doesnt just happen though, you need to have it well planned (with some luck thrown in!).
And of course.... keep the material coming in.
This is, after all, they people go to ur site in the first place!
And the more people that visit... the more overheard funnies will be posted..
