I wouldn't put much faith in this

Squiers aren't all that bad tbh. I've played a few nice ones.

with a price like that how can one go wrong

That's a prop guitar, for smashing at moderately priced gigs.

I've heard that there are good Squiers made "back in the day". But I have never ever heard one. :)

Played an 80's Jap Squier in a shop a while back. It was actually quite nice.

If I'd a bit of cash, I'd buy half a dozen of those cheap ass guitar for smashing and then build new bodies for them.

eh, there are so many worse guitars than squiers, worse sounding too. The worst acoustic guitars i would say are probably Oakman guitars. I think Squiers are very playable and are a perfect introduction to electric guitars, Encore would be another example of a lower grade of a copy of a strat.

Squiers arent bad at all. I've played some perfectly acceptable squiers. That said, I've played some terrible ones too. The worst guitars in my experience are all the ones in waltons that arent hanging high up. Sx, encore etc

I've a strat made of plywood sitting beside me right now. The fretboard is pitted to hell but I reckon with some new strings, it could sound pretty decent.

A friend of mine also has an old 80's squier strat, and yeah, it is rather nice.

But the worst guitars I have ever played are cheap ass strat replicas. Absolutely nothing goes right with some of them.

The best budget guitar I've ever used would be a Yamaha Pacifica. They're not actually half bad. Just a bit boring.

Played an acoustic that was left in a damp room leaning on a radiator for a few years. It was just horrible, warped, impossible to tune. Hilariously awful. :D

Ibanez don't do LTD's. ESP do. Unless the Ibanez LTD's are very very rare...

LTD's are quality guitars. Have you actually played some of the higher series or are you basing your opinions on the 50s?

Tanglewood Elf. I tried one in a shop, the whammy went down but didnt come up! terrible terrible guitar, tho no surprise given how small they are.

Low end models do exactly what they say on the tin, and they're practically guaranteed to be fairly awful. Ever played a BC Rich Bronze Series? Oh the humanity!

TBH, the 50 series from LTD aren't that bad. Not worth the money (€400+) but I've played far worse instruments.

I cut my finger on the edge of a Bronze series Beast. Neck was fast as hell but the quality left just a little to be desired.

Esteban are used on some US forums as the epitomy of an awful guitar. Read some reviews on them and everybody who has one seems to have received their's with a warped neck.

Squiers aren't that bad, the standard series aren't too bad anyway, Affinity ones ain't great. High end Ltds definetely aren't bad, got an ESP Ltd F400FM a few weeks ago. Spec is good (mahogany body, real EMGs, Earvana nut, flamed maple top, set thru neck etc), it plays well and it looks amazing in real life.

Worst electric guitar I've played, in terms of playability more so then sound, was probably an Aria, old one, can't remember the model but it was based on the look of a Gibson ES335.

i had a aria it was terrible, i think it was called the stg 003

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

They're not terrible guitars actually. My mate had one. Decent enough beginners guitars. Made of real wood, unlike more expensive Aria's that are made of plywood.
