They're made in Ireland. The manufactures's site should have them, google it.

They were selling them in the Great Outdoors last time I was in there.

    Great outdoors.

Waste of money if you ask me.

    No for gadget.
Sore noise in my ear for ringing maplin.

Seamus, you saying that they ARE IN TGO(The Great Outdoors), but that they are a waste of money? Or are you saying, that TGO is a rip off shop?!

Guess I'll try the great outdoors, thanks a million guys

Here's the website . The basic model will ship to Ireland for free for E20, if I remember correctly.

They're great fun to use, whatever about the therapeutic effects. Just don't drop it though. It messes up the inside

The powerball guys have great customer service. I dropped mine and they sent me a new shell for the outside for free, which sorted it out.

Hey Blisterman, thanks for the tip. My fella dropped his and it's been odd ever since. I'll tell him to get in touch with them

I was saying that the Powerballs are a waste of money, but I was mistaken. My housemate bought one, and the packaging is devoid of instructions, so he just pulls the cord, and has it sitting in his hand, "The waves it gives out build up your muscles". So I was of the opinion that they were just a gimmick.

Then I saw the play.com page with the video, and saw actually how you're supposed to use them. So I tried it with his powerball, took about 5 minutes to get the hang of it, and now my right hand is shaking :D
Only problem is that I'm *very* right-handed, so I'm having a bit of trouble getting my left hand to do it.

Tut Tut seamus, jumping to conclusions and then telling me they were a waste ;)

    Thanks for the help guys

I remember hearing somewhere that having constant vibrations through your hands/arms can cause some form of RSI.

There were concerns over the force feedback feature in gaming controllers, and while I feel that this was bunkem, people who use pneumatic drills etc have been known to suffer from certain ailments associated with the vibrations.

Obviously the question is, will these Powerballs damage you?

They claim otherwise. Actually, when they're used properly, there's little or no vibration through the ball, your wrist is moving in a fluid, circular motion. One of their selling points is that this motion is good for people with RSI, CTS, and sportspeople who get shocks in their wrists - tennis players, motorcyclists, etc.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know. Certainly when I used them, any pain is caused by the exercising of the muscles in the upper forearm, and the fingers.

NO it builds up your entire upper arm if you raise your arm upwards while using it, makes it much harder too though!

Why are powerballs so popular all of a sudden?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭Blisterman

Have you learned how to start it without the string yet? Much more convenient.

no problem, just to let you know I ordered late last night, and got conformation that it was sent out today via sds (cost extra 1.40 or something) so should have it tomorrow. Thats pretty much over night delivery which is quick enough for me. Will see now if I actually do get it.

I don't know why there so popular, some subliminal message being pumped somewhere lol. Haven't actually noticed any ads or anything for them :S just read about them on the web a few months ago and remember seeing them at that RDS big boys toys thing ages ago (the first one) and thought it be a good pressie.

There's a vid on the website about the two-fingered start. Basically just using your index and middle fingers to get it started. Not that hard, although I've only been able to maintain it, I haven't been able to speed it up using this method.

Some scarily obsessive peopel out there. The guy with the current record seems to just start it with the flick of his wrist

Wow, I have one of those. Never knew what it was called. Got it from some health expo thing about 10 yrs ago and I've never seen them again.
