Digital dimensions from 35mm film

I left a 35mm film into Boots a couple of days ago for developing and printing and asked for the photos to be transferred to a CD. The resulting jpegs are 1840 X 1232 (giving 2,266,880 pixels). This does not seem to exploit the inherent potential of the 35mm frame. I had a quick scan on the net of film to jpeg services and one promised 22.8 megapixels.

Is there anywhere in Dublin I could have my films processed and get decently sized jpegs? Or do I have to invest in a negative scanner?

I dont know if they're any better for digital prints but you could try doubleprint. Ive been using them for years now and ive only once had a problem with them with one set of prints which they fixed for me as soon as i told them and free of charge.

Please see attached pdf which shows that the company does not recommend that you use their jpegs for reprints!

for the price of a really good neg scanner you could buy a new Canon 350D

Ah but I have a lot of slides and negatives going back about 30 years so I think I'll go the scanner route for the moment.

Not exactly, you could pick up a great film scanner for around 300. All that it would be missing is digital ICE, which might be important for older negs or slides.
