hey i bought the DVD rewriter in Aldi on Thursday and set up was ok, and i successfully managed to rip a DVD onto my computer. But this is really starting to piss me off. My burner wont burn onto the disks. Iv tried both DVD-R and DVD+R. Is it the make of the DVDs. its Mr.DVD. it keeps coming up "your complitation cannot be written on this type of disk" when ever i try to burn it. is anyone else having this trouble? any idea what do i do?

I Am Afraid i cant help, but i can try

try going to pc world (dundalk retail park) if you live near dundalk co.louth
they would have a look at it, or try to burn it using different software like windows media player i think that would burn dvds.

BY the way try buying dvds in aldi that are for that dvd re- writer or just any dvds they are selling.... try different discs

see the thing is, the disks arent being recognised even when i try to open them from My Computer, it says that the E drive was interrupted

Make sure you have DVD selected as your disk type in Nero. It doesnt autodetect that you want to burn a DVD.

Maybe this is an overly simplistic suggestion; but you never know.

Download Nero (www.nero.com) and burn with that!

The software you get with DVD-Writer / CD-Writer drives are always sh*t!

    Best of luck!

well if you havent burnt anything onto the disks they wouldnt be accessible from windows..

maidhc's is a good suggestion, if you using nero.

You should also try buying a good quality (different) disk to see if that'll work..

can you read dvd's from the drive, i.e. could you watch a dvd movie on it?

any more details on the error its giving?

    More info needed:
You've cross posted this in Bargain Alerts here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=229538&page=2&pp=20
Are you trying to rip/burn a commercial DVD? (for backup purposes natch).
Are your DVD blanks double or single layer?
    Did you read Carbsy's reply?

im working with Nero, what other software will i try?

As another user said, are you sure Nero is set to burn DVDs? Also, if you have a CD burner installed already then you'll have to tell Nero to use the new DVD drive as your burner.

I'm just going on a hunch here but i'm betting you have a CD Burner already installed and even tho you're selecting to burn a DVD, you still have to tell Nero to use your new drive as the burner.

Going by this hunch, i bet that your software is still trying to burn dvd stuff onto whatever cd you have, or have not got in the other drive...

I had this problem with Nero Vision Express. Got around it by not using the wizard!

Another potential problem is compatibility between Nero and the ripping software.

    Try CloneDvd2

how do you mean by not using the Wizard?

Instead of the Smartstart I use the Vision Express Interface. Have you used the Nero tools? The info tool will tell you what media your drive supports, the cd/dvd drive speed utility will test the speed of the drive.

It may even be worth unistalling Nero and reinstalling it. I had to do that on one of my machines to get it to work.

Nero is a very popular and highly thought of product, but I don't think it's the most friendly anymore.

I had the exact problem with my DVD Writer and I was using Nero Software.

But, then came along a nice friend who recommended:
VSO DivxToDVD - Converts avi and stuff to DVD Disk ISO thingy files
CopyToDVD - Same company make it, burns DVD's and does other stuff.
DVD Shrink - Wat I use to copy DVDs.

When I changed software, it worked wonders. Just search google to get it, trust me, its well worth it!

You could use DVDShrink to create the DVD files (including menus) on your hard drive and then burn them to the DVD, unless I'm missing something that is....

    cheers
