Best Free Webhosting ?

Hi,

I wish to set up a personal transport-related website and wish to know ......

What free webhosting service would you guys recommend ?
(I'm currently considering Geocities.Yahoo)

I'm a relative novice when it comes to IT, so ease-of-use would be an important consideration.

I wish to include on the site :
- Photo Gallery
- Message Board
- Visitor Counter
- Guestbook

And hopefully no pop-up ads !

Also, how can I prevent spam on such a site (i.e. spam emails to my email address on the site) ?
...........and worse still, how would I prevent viruses infecting my computer ?

I currently use FireFox, Sygate Firewall (free version) and AVG Virus Protection (free version).

I don't have any experience with free web hosting, but paid hosting has become very affordable. blacknight.ie offer a basic package for €8/month, and hosting365.com offer a similar package for €9.95/month.

Photo Gallery, I would highly recommend Gallery

Message Board, well boards.ie is run on vBulletin phpBB is meant to be very good as well

Visiot Counter and guestbook is available in vBulletin as far as I know.

The easiest way would be to use an email client that can detect if email is spam, Thunderbird does a very good job of this. Unfortunately it is very hard to prevent spam, but is possible to deal with it.

Also never make your email address available publicly on the web, if you want to add a link for your email address on your site you should hide it from spiders by using an image of your address and hiding the linked address with javascript, if you want help doing this just ask here its really very simple and quite effective.

Use spybot and adaware as well. The hosting companies that I mention above offer anti-virus and spam solutions, as I said I have no idea what the free hosting services offer, but I am sure someone else here can help you there.
