    Hi,

I have 2 PC networked at home and I'm looking for a basic messenging software that can send messages to each other offline on the network... other than netsend. (Something like small... maybe like the instant messenging like in icq...)

I have seen a few like Trillian but wonder if anyone can recommend one.

    Thanks.

why don't you just go over to that person and talk to him in person?, you get a walk exercise(you have to do 1000 steps per day) and you can't get any more live then that :D

    ok ok seriously here

I have tried Quick Messenger and its quite good... only snag is the 31 day trial.

win messenger on the otherhand uses "net send"... and that doesn't work. For some reason, I get a general network error.
I never got net send to work in the 1st place and is why I'm looking for a substitute.

ie, if I try entering: net send <computer name> "hello"

    I get:

An error occurred while sending a message to GATEWAY.

The message alias could not be found on the network.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273.

    Typing that gives me:

The message alias could not be found on the network.

    EXPLANATION

This message alias could not be located.

    ACTION
Check the spelling of the message alias. If it is correct, then the computer that is to receive your message may be busy. Try sending the message again later.

Not very helpful methinks... ? One Pc has winxp pro and the other winxp home. Wouldn't be the cause?

I better that everything else is fine. pings computer names fine, Sharing files, shared internet... one has a fixed ip address and the other is dynamic (needed for share internet).

I wrote one of these a couple of years back. If I can find the working executable, you can have it.

and about 30 day trail, erm...hmm.... you know erm.. there are ways to "fix" it

Don't have a windows system so I can't test this. It was the only version I could find so I'm not sure if it even runs. If you know any C++ you can fix it up if you like :D
Just run the .exe from the Debug directory. Hmm, now that I think of it, I think you need a few DLLs from Microsoft (included).
