i think theyres anew one coming out, 1 gig more or something,
anyway apple probably dont like there licensed resellers having the discontinued one on sale beside the new one so theyre probably encouraging them to sell it off cheap.

excellent price anyway, although i have to admit i was grabbing my keys to get and get one cos i though it was a mac mini heheh

Just checked the UK/Irish Apple site - they are advertisting the "new" iPod mini. Looks like there's a 4gb (€209) and a 6gb (€249) version.

Either way, these are all excellent prices. My guess is that increased competition from the likes of Creative/iRiver etc is driving down the price.

probably the falling price of micro hard drives is driving down the cost of them id say.

I've seen the 4gig ipod mini for 169 in the O2 store in Dundrum Town Centre.

Hmmmm.. got the girlfriend a €150 voucher for O2 for her birthday as she was thinking of getting the 1GB iPod Shuffle (€150). They didn't have the 1GB version last we were in.. only the 512MB version.

This reduction is great value considering the price of the iPod Shuffle is 1/4 of the size.

You think the O2 Experience are selling them?

really is very cheap, can the battery be removed at a later date and the 'better' one from the latest ones be put in?

I don't think it can be to be honest. If you tried to take the battery out yourself it would probably void your warranty.

did anyone get one of these Ipod mini's????? I'm gonna be taking myself down to get one in the morning. I bought a philips 20gig Mp3 player from xtra vision thinkin I'd get something like an itrip to transmit to the car stereo but no such luck. I've heard of a shop in limerick that sells them behind the counter so i'll be heading there also.

    As far as i know - they're €169 in O2 Stores and €189 in 3G Stores,

All o2 stores have them at €189 (they have a networked till system so all stores have the items at the same price).
I rang the o2 experience in Dundrum and they said they're selling it for 189 also, guy I spoke to said they had it marked down from 269 so unless that's what rojo saw maybe.
o2 experience on henry st and grafton st are out of stock at the moment as they're waiting on iPod mini's to come in with "new packaging".

As i just said Ricardo, I rang o2 in Dundrum and they said it's 189 !

Apple have the new mini iPod with improved battery life (18 hours now but don't know what it was before) for €209.

Do yourself a favour and buy a Creative Zen or a Phillips instead. I bought the iPod 4gb about 6 weeks ago on ebay and I've had nothing but hassle with it. Check out the Apple message board to see the complaints people have about it. It's the most user un-friendly piece of crap I've ever used. The battery life is rubbish - nowhere near the 8 hours they tell you, most I can get is just over 2. You can't delete a track directly from the iPod you have to hook up to the computer and that's if you can actually get the bloody thing to connect in the first place! Bought a cheap little 256 mp3 player from China on Ebay as well and it's far superior! Doesn't hold many tracks but it works like a dream!

Got mine today great deal at 189 euro, Have it loaded to the hilt with music and have been using it for the last hour or so on about a hours charging. Only thing I want now is the itrip so I can use it in the car. The only problem I had was when I started it up the o/s was in german. So had to get my dictionary and find language but now tis in the good auld english and I'm very happy indeed.

id say u are better paying the extra as there is only 20 euro between the new one and old.
in a couple of years the battery life on the 1G one mayb only a couple of hours whereas as the newer one will still have good battery life as it has a better capacity to begin with as well as the discharge rates being lower so the battery will last longer( internal resistance wont matter as much in an old cell if the demand is low)

hence id recommend the sony hd3 which has a very low discharge rate, apart from no radio its the best of them.

Rio Carbon also in 3G reduced to 209. Extra 1GB memory, 20 hours battery. Also Stuff magazine rated it as best mini Mp3 player in this months edition -
Models featured included iRiver H10, iPod mini, Creative Micro and a few others.

Apple have the new iPod mini with extended battery life for €192 if you're a student.
All you have to do is send them an email from your college mail account or fax them a copy of your student ID.

You also get 8% off any apple accesories.

Thank god DCU never closed my email account !
