What VST's, sample libraries or the like do you use?

I use Kontakt Player Gold with sibelius 3, and Garritan Personal Orchestra. GPO is amazing, but not really "hollywood-y" enough to sound realistic to a lot of people.

Kontakt player Gold is sh*t. The violins sound like a harmonic.

I also got Cubase SX. Does the job.

    Et Vous?

I have the Post Musical Instruments Bosendorfer 290 piano sample set. It's very nice. Not gone on the integrated front-end though - a strip-down of Kontakt. I might get Halion or Gigasampler at some stage instead.

Actually ive been looking to pick up GPO. Where did you get it and how much?

    www.Garritan.com

It's a great site, and the people on the forum are especially nice imo. GPO is $259, but you get so much for that price. It's up there with VSL and the other 'best' libraries. I recommend it 100%.

I have sampletank 2, which has what I consider to be the most realistic piano samples I've ever heard. Im on the lookout for some good strings synths at the moment. Not really sure what Im after though.

I use Native Instruments Battery 2 (drums), Spectrasonics Trilogy Total Bass Module, Music Labs Real Guitar (acoustic guitar) and Steinberg's The Grand (piano). All great VSTs IMO, but then I'm a newbie to this whole sample mullarkey. Just recently got Hans Zimmer Guitars Vol 1 & 2 so looking forward to playing with that when time permits, experiment with some rock tunes that have been sitting on the back burner.

Looking for some good ethnic samples, e.g., accordion, banjo, fiddle etc. Any advice appreciated.

deadly. I ordered RealGuitar a little over a week ago after playing with the demo for every 24 hours of the 14 day demo trial version, should be here soon. It was a toss between that or a Hanz Zimmer guitar collection. they're both great.

Ardent, if you're looknig for ethnic samples, try www.bestservice.de and search for "Rare Instruments" - its a great 3 cd set from india, asia, etc.

another good lbirary is "celtic instruments" with the fiddle, banjo, bagpipes, uillean pipes, etc.
