Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is there anyone here who can recommend a few good Bach pieces for someone new to him?

Brandenburg Concertos are probably a good place to start - some parts are quite famous and should be familiar. There should be at least one version in any classical music section of a music store.

I would consider the Violin Concertos quite appropriate for someone 'new' to Bach. The one in A minor perhaps?

There are some gorgeous arias from St. Matthew's Passion. "Erbarme Dich, Mein Gott" for example - a little too sombre perhaps, although it's absolutely sublime!

Then there's the obvious ones like Jesu Joy for Man's Desiring, Air on a G String and the famous aria de capo from the Goldberg Variations (..it's fame was furthered by the soundtrack to the film "Hannibal" I think).

Bach's legacy is colossal - I have barely scratched it's surface myself. Enjoy!
