propping guitars against a wall

Is leaning your guitar against the wall (stings out) as bad for the neck as people make out ?
Is it better to lean it against a wall strings in - the theory being that the tension in the strings offsets the forces on the neck.

But then you could damage the frets. Ahhhh it's a crazy one. Safest thing is just buy a stand. :)

I always thought it was a bit poncy to have a stand for your guitar :)

€58 all told and you'll never damage a guitar by leaning it against a wall. Have one of these coming into me next week :)

The guitar doesnt like to be propped against a wall any more than you would like to be propped against one :)

Several years ago a guy propped my vintage Thinline neck-down against a chair and slightly damaged the finish on the neck. Needless to say i terminated him with extreme prejudice.

Seriously though, as a general rule, if you are comfortable, your guitar will be too. This applies mostly to factors like room temperature and humidity, but still - why not just make your guitar comfy as well? :)

    Gotta love your guitar man!

class question. it depends on the angle id say. i find roughly around 75 degrees or above to the ground is ok.but not too high or itll fall over...probably

ii played bass a while ago and had a thunderird IV (sweet)... anyway i left it standing against the wall for 2 weeks when i went on holliers and came back 2 a serious 1st fret buzzing sound.. so from my experience i say don't lean your axe against the wall.. ;)

The finish on the back of my Les Paul is a bit worn because of my wall.amp leaning.

the theory being that the tension in the strings offsets the forces on the neck.

The truss rod is already off-setting the tension of the strings on the neck!

ive always left my guitar leaning against a wall,

and now i wish i hadnt.....

my high e string seems to get flat as i play up the frets but when i play it open its perfectly in tune?

maybe this has nothing to do with leaning it against the wall but i dont know why else it'd happen?

I think you need to adjust the intonation on the string. Not a big job. Any guitar book will tell you how

Stand. Stand. Stand. Or else store it in a hardcase. No wall leaning. Bold. Very bold.

don't put your guitar in any position you wouldn't like to be in

I sometimes enjoy a good lean against a wall ;)
Maybe i should slouch my guitar on the sofa in front of the tv :)

Seriously, is there any actual facts that show propping your guitar against a wall will damage the neck. There couldnt be that much pressure on the neck -could there?
What about getting one of these guys and hanging the guitar on the wall for all the admire.

    .
It probably depends if the wall was made in Korea or in Japan.

i actually want a few of them just to save some room and get some more floor space, however i don't think i want to risk putting holes in my wall.. i have a tendancy to **** up at that kinda stuff

Pop it back in its hardcase, if its worth enough to have a hardcase. And if it isn't lean that cheap **** against the wall, who cares?

Perhaps, if you put the horn through the bottom. My mate ordered the 5 way stand that folds up into the case and he has a Gibson Explorer and a BC Rich Warlock so I'll let you know how those fit.

    Feylya, Is that thing foldable?

Yup. Karl Hungus has one so he might be better to answer these questions. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered.
