    Hi All,

I want to get a new box to replace my current old pc a compaq presario 5150 amdk62 350mhz, it was a good machine 6 years ago,The only work I have ever done on a pc was to add ram to it and add on a 40gb harddrive, I bought a graphics card for it for it said (fully upgradeable/ expandable) on the box and when i went to install it found the graphics card was part of the motherboard and there was no agp slot in the machine so I brought it back to the shop
Anyway I want a new machine and have looked at all the usual ones dell etc but I think I would like to build my own , I want it mainly for gaming and would like to be able to upgrade it when funds allow , I am thinking of this kit from komplett for 611 euro as I dont know whats compatible with what, is this a good deal and will it give me a decent gaming pc? Should i buy the components as a kit or seperately and add or change anything ?
I am also looking at their 1000€ kit specs below as well . Would this be much better? is there anything in this you would change? I have around 1000 to spend , but would like to buy a new monitor if I can .

Please advise me , Im here thumbing through a book 'how to build your own pc' i bought in maplin the other day and badly need advice.
    Thanks
    zed

One request for clarification: COuld you specify what type of gaming? Like do you want it to be able to play the latest and greatest first person shooters (half life 2, unreal tournament 2004) at decent framerates? If so, that 9600pro in the 611 euro kit wont cut the mustard for much longer.

Or is it just for stuff like championship manager? that's not overly graphically intensive. I only ask because you've lasted a long time on the K6 machine.

You should be able to build your own mid range gaming machine for a grand with a new monitor (though obviously you'll get better kit if you stick with your old monitor....what kind of monitor is it? Size, etc.). Are you after a flat panel? Flat panels that are ok for gaming are a bit pricier.

Hi Khannie, unfortunately i love the first person shooters , I havent played any on my old pc in a long time and have been relying on my ps2 for most of my gaming , spend too much time on killzone./call to duty etc as it is . my monitor is only a 15 inch compaq mv 500, i reckon i would probably rather spend the money on the box now and upgrade the monitor in a month or 2 when more cash is available if the 1000will give a significantly better machine then the 600, any recommendations on monitors also greatly appreciated.

    thanks zed
